What a day from Turin looks like
Pickup between eight and nine at your hotel or a meeting point in the centre, then the motorway south past Asti and into the hills. The first cellar is typically in La Morra or Barolo village, a family estate with a cellar visit and a flight of four or five wines from Langhe Nebbiolo up to Barolo Riserva. Lunch is at an estate or a village trattoria, agnolotti and brasato with the wines. A second cellar, sometimes in Barbaresco for the comparison, and a stop for the view at La Morra or the castle at Grinzane Cavour before the drive back. Small groups of eight or fewer are the norm and worth the premium over coach tours.
In truffle season

The train alternative
Alba is an hour and a quarter from Turin by direct regional train for a few euros.
